The Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge and The Vohon Ukrainian Dance Ensemble have been in partnership for 13 years, celebrating the Ukrainian New Year’s (Malanka) in style. Year after year guests have been traveling to The Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge for live entertainment featuring traditional dance by The Vohon Ukrainian Dance Ensemble, outstanding Ukrainian food, children’s activities and a visit from St. Nicholas himself.

Vohon’s Malnka in the Mountains at The Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge is held over the traditional Ukrainian New Year. The weekend long festivities kick off with a welcome reception at the Jasper Park Lodge’s grand ballroom with a larger than life performance by the Vohon Dance Ensemble followed by live entertainment and a dance with traditional Ukrainian music.

The welcome reception certainly sets the tone for Saturday which features a full day of Ukrainian cultural workshops, Ukrainian Village and Artisan Fair, outdoor family fun, choirs, musicians and dances. Just added this year, The Taste of Ukraine will be holding a full cooking demonstration in the morning. They will be showcasing some interesting Ukrainian dishes that many people (even Ukrainian-Canadians!) may have not seen before. Aside from the amazing Ukrainian events, The Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge will have an abundance of activities that will get you outside and enjoying the fresh mountain air.

On Saturday evening you will enjoy Ukrainian Holiday Dishes, including kutia and borscht, as well as a plethora of Canadian favourites. Ukrainian customs and traditions will be honoured, representing the spiritual significance of the event this unique celebration. Carolers singing koliadky and schedrivky will be featured throughout dinner, with more music and dancing following the performances.

On the last day of Malanka in the Mountains, a Divine Liturgy will be hosted, the Feast of Jordan Service at Lac Beauvert followed by The Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge’s famous Sunday brunch.
