Fairmont Wedding at the Fairmont Chateau Laurier
“ It was a dream of ours to get married in such a beautiful venue...”
Congratulations on your wedding! What made you decide on having your wedding with us at Fairmont?
- Breton (the bride)'s grandparents spent their honeymoon at the Chateau Frontenac in Quebec City.
- Breton and Casey have spent several weekends at various Fairmonts (including Chateau Frontenac, Chateau Montebello, Chateau Laurier).
- Casey organized a night at the Chateau Laurier the night they got engaged.
Besides that, it was a dream of ours to get married in such a beautiful venue that was situated where our relationship began and grew. The Chateau Laurier was a perfect choice.
Where did you have your ceremony?
We had our ceremony in the Canadian Room of the Chateau Laurier. Before the ceremony, we had a traditional Chinese Tea Ceremony and Grooms Games.
Tell us about the flowers you chose. Did you go traditional or contemporary?
For the flowers, we chose traditional arrangements to match the feel of the Chateau Laurier.
Tell us about the meal you served your guests. What type and flavor cake did you have at your reception?
Our meal was a choice of Salmon, Beef, Chicken, or
Vegetarian. A number of our guests had dietary restrictions that the Chateau Laurier accommodated. We were very impressed by this. We opted not to have a cake.
What element(s) did you add to make the wedding uniquely ‘yours’?
A couple of elements included:
- Traditional Tea Ceremony and Grooms Games
- MTV Awards-Style wedding party introduction
- (https://vimeo.com/94393379)
- Video montage of couple for the first dance
- Surprise Lion Dancers at our Reception
- Surprise Live Band (surprise even to the bride and groom, as it was organized by the groom's sister and brother-in-law)
- Maple Syrup Party Favours. Maple Syrup was made (boiled and collected) by bride, groom, and the bride's family.
Another integral part of the day is the wedding dress! Tell us about what you chose to wear. Did you follow the old English saying “something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue”?
The wedding dress was made for Breton by Kim Ironmonger at Valencienne Bridal in Toronto. Breton had searched many shops for months before finding her perfect dress. When Breton found this dress, she knew it would live up to the grandeur of a Fairmont venue. Casey's suit was custom made by Garrison Bespoke in Toronto - a simple, classic, James Bond-esque suit.
What was the first song you danced to as newlyweds? Why did you pick that particular song?
We danced to "Cheek to Cheek" by Fred Astaire. We always knew we wanted a classic jazz song, and as soon as Breton suggested this one, the more we listened to it, the more and more perfect it sounded.
Now that you are married and have had time to reflect on your wedding day, what was your favorite moment?
The best part was being able to share the best day of our lives together (oh, also, the caramel popcorn the Chateau Laurier gave us at the end of the night was delicious!).
