In 2005, Todd lost his wife of 15 years and the mother of his two small children to cancer. A month later, he lost his father to cancer. That Christmas Eve, his house flooded, and during restoration, it caught fire and was a total loss... on Valentine's Day. During this time, I was ending a six year relationship, living alone again, and experiencing my own emotional rock bottom.

In April of 2008, Todd put an ad on Craigslist for a vocalist for his band. On a whim, I answered the ad, and on a Monday afternoon, I used my lunch hour to audition for him. When he opened the door, there was an immediate spark. We talked on the phone for two hours every night and laughed until our throats hurt. I started attending his family Friday movie nights, and he met my best friend – my gatekeeper. He asked his kids if they liked me and they both agreed I needed to move in before Christmas.

In December of 2008, the first day of Seattle's week-long blizzard, Todd proposed to me on Alki. We were married a year later, and spent our wedding night at the Fairmont Olympic Hotel. Our life together is better than either of us thought possible, and keeps getting better. We are living proof that that life's journey prepares us for our heart's desire.
