My Ultra Luxury Trip to Fairmont Mayakoba in the Riviera Maya

After a lot of thought, research, trip planning and tough decisions, my girlfriend and I decided to go to the Riviera Maya. We stayed at the Fairmont Mayakoba, which turned out to be the best decision!  This place was so nice and relaxing that we dreaded the day we would have to leave...

From day 1 we were upgraded to a Jungle View Casita, which totally blew us away... The plants and flowers surrounding our room and balcony were so amazing that we took like 100 images of just plants alone. I have included just 2 or 3 above.  The resort is large enough that they offer free bicycles to get to and from places on the property. Thats what my girlfriend and I tended to us most because it was a lot of fun riding over the bridges over the canals and it was fun to stop and take in our surroundings. There are a lot of birds, lizards and wildlife around, so watch out you don't run anything over.  You can also take a Canal boat trip to the beach or you can take a shuttle golf cart type vehicle to where you want to go if you don't want to ride a bike.

The food was soooo good, that I find it hard to eat Fajitas now that are not from Fairmont Mayakoba... Every meal was amazing. Room service was incredible and we actually used it a lot.  Restaurant and beach staff were so friendly that they would even remember my name! I couldn't believe it.  The food and the friendly staff was a huge part of why we loved the resort so much, besides the perfect property, location and luxuriousness. Almost all drinks would come in a bucket of ice to keep them cool in the heat.

The resort is extremely environmentally conscious as well, which gives Mayakoba huge bonus points from me.  They actually recycle, which is huge because Mexico doesn't even really have a recycling program and they also care for all the plants and animals with the utmost care. They even have special sensors to turn off the A/C in your room if you open the balcony sliding doors so you don't waste energy! How smart is that?

The pools are unheated surprisingly... but that didn't matter since it was so refreshing after being "nuked" by the suns rays.  Being on the beach with the breeze was very nice, but if you are at some of the pools the breeze doesn't cool you down enough, so you will find yourself swimming a lot more. We never really used the Main Pool, we always used the "Adult Pool" with the infinity edge to the canal. Here the pool loungers were made of wood and can be put together to make a super big lounger for couples. They also had nice mattress-type covers for the loungers which made them SO comfortable that you could fall asleep in them. This pool is strictly for adults and not so much for children, so it was nice and quiet for reading and such. The noisy area was by the kids slides and pool area which was great for them. We never had to rush to the beach or pools to get a spot with our towels because there were plenty of places to lay in the sun or in the shade.

We arranged a couple tours through the onsite hotel tour operator company. Through them we did a Chichen Itza tour and a Snorkel Catamaran trip. If you are going to Fairmont Mayakoba, or Riviera Maya for that matter, you MUST go to Chichen Itza!  On our tour we also stopped at a fresh water Cenote for a refreshing swim. It was amazing! The pictures above do not do justice for how amazing of an experience this was.  You can jump off some ledges which were fairly high up, which was fun. These were the watering holes that the ancient Mayans used many many years ago. All in all it was a great trip. The coach bus was nice and the tour guide was amazing as well. He was really funny and to this day my girlfriend and I still tell some "inside jokes" that our tour guide used to say/do. The trip took all day since Chichen Itza was about 2.5 hours from the resort. They feed you and everything and even supply Coronas on the bus!  Well worth the $$ we paid, which wasn't even that much! It was really hot going to Chichen Itza and with all the walking we had to do it is best to be prepared with lots of sunscreen and water. Only annoying thing about that tour was that there are tons of locals trying to sell you souvenirs while your trying to explore the area. At no point did I feel unsafe though, which is a really good thing.

All in all it was an AMAZING trip and I can't wait to go back again. Next time I think I am going to try and get a Casita right on the oceanfront. Those rooms even have their own little swimming pools! I think you get your own Butler as well... How cool is that?
