Fairmont Mayakoba

It was a hot and humid day. 85 degrees at least - maybe 90. We had just arrived in Mexico for the our very first visit, and spent about an hour getting a rental car at the Cancun airport. Traveling from San Diego meant a 6 hour flight to Florida, followed by an hour and a half to Mexico. We were tired - and our nine month old baby was on the verge of a meltdown.

We had heard great things about the Fairmont Mayakoba and couldn't wait to arrive. We finally made it - and not a minute too soon. As we drove through the gates, it seemed like a wave of heat had been lifted from us. We were amazed at the architecture, the setting, the hotel. As we stepped out from the car, we knew we had discovered a little piece of paradise.

After checking in, we made a bee-line for the pool, put our little boy, Josh, in his floating contraption, and prepared to submerge him into the water. As his feet touched the water, his face turned to surprise, followed by pure enjoyment. This photo captures that exact moment.
