As homage to the cherry tree and its love affair with Vancouverites, the bartenders at Lobby Lounge at Fairmont Pacific Rim have crafted the Cherry Blossom Sour as our signature drink. Cherry blossoms, the harbinger of spring in Vancouver, festively decorate the city in blooms from the over-37,000 pink and white trees that dot the landscape. And in honour of the city's 125th birthday, the Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival Society is planting an additional 3,000 new trees. Many of the trees were gifted by Japan in the 1930's, and with a lifespan of approximately 80 years, the society is offering an opportunity to purchase six-foot cherry trees at $40 for planting in private gardens, school grounds, and company lawns. A great way to ensure the cherry tally continues to grow, the project also assists the city to keep its "Greenest City Initiative" goals and make Vancouver one of the most sustainable and pretty places in the world.
