Organic Fairmont Earl Grey (Organic Black Tea with natural flavors)

Cup Characteristics: A very aromatic bergamot Earl Grey that is in harmony with the high mountain Ceylon tea.
Ingredients: Luxury organic black tea, Organic natural flavors.

Tea Story:
By many estimates, Earl Grey tea is the most popularly consumed hot beverage in the Western World.  The reason?  Earl Grey is a triple threat of scent, flavor and food compatibility.  From the exotic scent of citrus that wafts through a dining room, to the sweet citrus character that the passes the lips and its ability to compliment a variety of dishes, Earl Grey is positioned as one of the world's great all around teas.

The blend gets its name from the man who introduced it to the Western palate, the 2nd Earl of Grey, British Prime Minister from 1830 – 1834.  While myth abounds, it is generally accepted that Earl Grey was given the famous recipe for blending black tea with bergamot, a small citrus fruit, from one of his emissaries to China.  The emissary reportedly saved the life of a Chinese Mandarin and was given him the recipe as a gesture of his gratitude.  Although the original recipe called for a base of Chinese tea, over the years many variations have been developed.  The variety we offer here is based on a fabulous high grown organic Ceylon tea chosen for it's delicate astringency, light flavorful cup and ability to hold flavor.

How is organic tea grown?
Operating an organic tea garden or herbal farm is a multi-stepped process.  In all cases, organic tea farms adhere to the following:
• Abstinence from using any synthetic fertilizer or pesticide
• Protection of the environmental integrity of lands surrounding the gardens
• Minimize pollution and optimize biological productivity
• Replenishment and maintenance of garden soil fertility.
• Promotion and maintenance of biodiversity in and around the tea gardens.
(This includes working to protect natural wildlife habitats.)

To make the perfect cup of Fairmont Tea:  Bring freshly drawn cold water to a rolling boil. Use 1 teaspoon of Fairmont Earl Grey luxury loose tea or 1 tea bag of Fairmont Earl Grey luxury tea for each 10 ounce/300 ml serving required. Pour boiling water into teapot. Cover and let steep for 3-7 minutes to desired strength - the longer the steeping time the stronger the tea. Although milk and a dash of sugar may help enhance the flavor of this tea, it is perfectly acceptable to consume it 'straight-up.'

To make the perfect cup of Fairmont Iced Tea:  (to make 1 liter/quart):  Place 6 teaspoons of Fairmont Earl Grey luxury loose tea or 6-8 tea bags of Fairmont Earl Grey luxury tea into a teapot or heat resistant pitcher. Steep 5 minutes. Quarter fill a serving pitcher with cold water. Strain the tea into the pitcher. Add ice and top-up with cold water. Garnish and sweeten to taste. [A rule of thumb when preparing fresh brewed iced tea is to double the strength of hot tea since it will be poured over ice and diluted with cold water]. Please note that this tea may tend to go cloudy or 'milky' when poured over ice; a perfectly normal characteristic of some high quality black teas and nothing to worry about!
