Best for City-Inspired Stationery

With tables covered in candy-colored candles, antique-inspired jewelry and quirky gifts (think pink poodle bookends), Gigi + Rose may be the prettiest shop in San Francisco. Pick up a notebook, calendar or greeting card adorned with an illustration by local artist Tomoko Maruyama, whose prints on watercolor paper add an original twist to landmarks such as the Golden Gate Bridge.

900 North Point St., H103

Best for Scented Souvenirs

When Albert Nichols left his job as an architect to devote himself to fragrance, he knew that his products would put an emphasis on both quality and beauty – two fundamentals passed down by his great-grandmother, Elizabeth Wightman, who inspired the Elizabeth W brand. Today, the San Francisco perfumery stocks everything from impeccably packaged eau de parfum (in fresh, timeless scents like orange verbena and vetiver) to chic printed aprons.

Best for Standout Art

Every square foot of Art Attack SF’s small studio is covered in carefully curated paintings, sculptures and apparel made by San Francisco and Bay Area artists. Find edgy, thought-provoking ink and acrylic pieces by David Steinhardt and whimsical prints from the famous Robots & Donuts series by Eric Joyner, or opt for a wearable work of art: sunglasses made with reclaimed walnut and zebrawood by locally based brand Wooed.

Best for Making Yourself at Home

Located on the city’s picturesque waterfront (with stunning views of Alcatraz), the iconic Ghirardelli Square chocolate factory was reinvented in 2008 as Fairmont Heritage Place, Ghirardelli Square. In addition to overnight accommodations, the property offers fractional ownership of its cozily furnished apartments, all of which include a gourmet kitchen, fireplace and dining area, many with exposed-brick walls.

900 North Point St., D100

Best for Local Lattes

When the baristas preparing your coffee have a cult following, you know it’s going to be good, and the offerings at Black Point Cafe don’t disappoint. Try the signature lavender latte – a smooth and subtle blend – or one of the legendary sweets, from almond croissants to coconut cranberry scones, all made in-house with love.
