Although Dr. King spent most of his life in the South fighting for equality for all Americans, in 1966, Dr. King moved briefly to Chicago. The Southern Christian Leadership Conference and the Coordinating Council of Community Organizations combined to create the Chicago Freedom Movement. The goal of the Chicago Freedom Movement was to end racial discrimination in housing. The work of the Chicago Freedom Movement lead to the passing of the Fair Housing Act of 1968.
