Fairmont Pittsburgh - LEED Standards

Fairmont Pittsburgh

Learn more about Fairmont Pittsburgh or make a booking.

Water use reduction:
Our calculations show that Fairmont will save about 930,000 gal of water annually.

Fresh Air:
The guestrooms are served by dedicated outdoor air units that supply 100% outside air. On an average, the ventilation units supply about 100% more fresh air (by volume) than code requirements.

Energy savings:
Lighting energy savings: Lighting power in the project has been reduced by 40,000 Watts below ASHRAE. This results in annual lighting energy savings of about 50,000 kWh. This is equivalent to lighting about 50 households annually.
Annual CO2 emissions reduction due to lighting energy savings= 65,000 lbs (30 metric tons) of CO2. This is equivalent to removing 5 passenger cars form the road.

Equipment energy savings: About 75% of all equipment and appliances used in the project is certified by Energy Star that on an average use 20-30% less energy than non-certified equipment. This results in equipment power reduction of about 30,000 Watts and annual energy savings of about 75,000 kWh. This is equivalent to powering appliances in about 150 households for a year.
Annual CO2 emissions reduction due to equipment energy savings= 97,500 lbs (45 metric tons) of CO2. This is equivalent to removing 8 passenger cars form the road.

HVAC energy savings: The HVAC systems were primarily under the scope of the base building. Astorino were responsible for the LEED application for that scope. As a result, we don not have any figures for the HVAC energy savings. If necessary, I can try to find out from Astorino.

Indoor Air Quality - Low emitting materials and finishes
All paints, adhesives/sealants and carpets specified for the project have low emissions of VOCs. (All carpets are certified by the Green Label Plus program.) All laminates and laminating adhesives are free from added urea formaldehyde.

Green Housekeeping
Low-toxic and environmentally friendly cleaning chemicals will be used in Fairmont. Only cleaning products certified by the Green Seal Standard (GS-37) will be used. Please note that we haven't received any data from the Contractor on the following items yet. The figures below are ballpark and reflect the performance targets for this project.

Total recycled content value- More than 10% of all building materials and products (by cost)
Total local/ regional content value- More than 10% of all building materials and products (by cost)
Construction waste diverted from landfill- About 75%.
