Fog and chilly temperatures did not discourage Fairmont volunteers - thirty-five eco-minded colleagues from the Fairmont San Francisco, the Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn and the Fairmont Heritage Place, Ghirardelli Square volunteered over 140 hours toward the Muir Woods Earth Day cleanup (1/29/2011).   While enjoying the majestic redwoods the group joined by other like-minded Bay Area businesses worked toward restoring and preserving this spectacular national park. Projects included planting, habitat restoration and weed removal, mulching, tending the forest floor, and trail maintenance throughout the Redwood Creek Watershed.

“Our committed colleague volunteers accompanied by friends and family lent strength while embodying the spirit of Fairmont’s Green Partnership Program. With a long commitment to environmental stewardship and responsible tourism Fairmont continues to uphold its pledge to preserve the places in which we live, work and play,” boasts Tom Klein, Regional Vice-President of Operations and General Manager of the Fairmont San Francisco.

Dianne Dahlberg, the Fairmont San Francisco’s celebrated ‘eco-champion’ adds, “Hundreds of thousands of visitors enter the park each year to appreciate the old growth redwood trees,  Organizing and participating in these annual clean-ups  ensures Californians and visitors are able to enjoy these landmarks for future generations."

Program is a cooperative park wide effort of the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy, the National Park Service and the Presidio Trust.
