Fairmont Southampton

Four hundred years ago, Bermuda cedars covered the Bermuda landscape.  Juniperus Bermudians is the indigenous species found in many prestigious homes on the Island, this darker, harder wood is unique to our area.  Over the years, however, fungi epidemics have destroyed a vast number of the cedars, reducing its population by 90 percent since its peak!  One of our Green Team initiatives at The Fairmont Southampton in Bermuda is to assist in the ongoing reforestation of Bermuda's most unique and beautiful evergreen.

In keeping with the rich history and tradition of Bermuda, and as part of our weddings package, we will plant a Bermuda cedar tree for all of our interested couples getting married onsite to commemorate their special day.  As newlyweds, the couples are offered a Bermuda seedling, propagated in our nursery to be planted on the grounds of our resort or golf course at no charge.  Local newlyweds may take their seedling to plant at home.  All cedar seedlings planted are accompanied by a certificate and photo for our couples, acknowledging the seedling's location on property.  Our couples’ interest in this environmental incentive will ensure the traditions and beauty of Bermuda will grow for years to come.

For more information on this weddings environmental initiative here at The Fairmont Southampton, Bermuda, please contact our Weddings Specialist, Ms. Wendy Rukstalis, at wendy.rukstalis@fairmont.com or 441-239-6987.
