Conceived and created in 1991 by Jane's Addiction singer Perry Farrell as a farewell tour for his band, Lollapalooza ran annually until 1997, and was revived in 2003. In 2005, Lolla found a permanent home in Grant Park. Lollapalooza is more than an annual music festival, it has also provided a platform for non-profit and political groups to share their voice. Hosting more than 150,000 people over a three-day weekend, Lollapalooza is credited with 'discovering' artists such as Nine Inch Nails, The Smashing Pumpkins, Muse, Imagine Dragons, Beastie Boys, Coldplay, Stone Temple Pilots, Foo Fighters, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Ministry, Pearl Jam, Of Monsters and Men, Primus, The Killers, Rage Against the Machine, Arcade Fire, Soundgarden, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Alice in Chains, The Black Keys, Hole, Ice-T, The Strokes, Arctic Monkeys and Calvin Harris.
