Montreux Christmas Market

Fairmont Le Montreux Palace

Learn more about Fairmont Le Montreux Palace or make a booking.

Ideally located in the very heart of the Christmas Market, Fairmont Le Montreux Palace is an integral part of the festivities. The façade of the hotel and the gardens dress in their Sunday best to participate in the 23rd edition of this exceptional event.

Once the children have gone back to school in September, Christmas decorations gradually begin filling the shelves and shop windows.
It’s a sure sign that the festive season is on its way. Children begin to think of what they might write to Santa, while parents ensure that the chimney is clear so that the presents will be under the Christmas tree when the big day arrives. In Montreux, festive season rhymes with Christmas Market. The market brings the city to life for an entire month, attracting more than 500,000 people every year. Ideally located in the heart of the event, Fairmont Le Montreux Palace is an integral part of the festivities. The teams responsible for the events are therefore busy for several months, getting ready to offer guests and any passers-by an absolutely dazzling show.

The façade is  transformed into a big screen
For this 23rd edition of the Christmas Market, particular attention has been paid to the exterior of the building, so that as many people as possible can enjoy the show. From 23 November to 24 December, the magnificent façade of the hotel is transformed into a big screen. Once night falls, a film will be shown every hour. A magical show which promises to make eyes sparkle for young and old alike.

Igloos... with heating too!
The gardens are also decorated for the occasion. Four inflatable igloos will be set up just above the quays in the hotel gardens. They are the perfect place to get away from the crowd for a few moments and enjoy a glass of something with family or friends in a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Don’t worry, they’re heated!

Vibrant after-ski evenings
Fans of festive evenings are sure to visit the Après-Ski igloo, especially on Saturday nights. That’s when the main igloo, with space for up to 100 people, hosts the now eagerly anticipated après-ski evenings which pulsate to the sounds played by the DJs. Formerly held on the terrace of MP’s Bar & Grill, these evenings have now found the perfect venue for the party to continue in full swing without disturbing the hotel guests. If you wish to organise an event in a somewhat unusual setting, remember that the igloos (with a capacity of up to 120 people) can be booked for an evening for private use. Simply contact the Fairmont Le Montreux Palace team.

The Christmas Market pays homage to traditions from around the world
The event is held from 23 November to 24 December and this is the first time that it stretches all the way to the 2m2c Convention Centre. For this 23rd edition, visitors can explore the 160 chalets offering thousands of gift ideas without ever having to leave the lake shore. This year, the Christmas Market welcomes Portugal as the guest of honour, with an area dedicated entirely to the country’s culture. When you visit, don’t forget to stop off at the Lumberjacks’ Village with an amazing log cabin built by the woodcutters of the municipality of Montreux. With its legendary hot tea and pizzas, it will once again be the essential meeting point for local associations and a key gathering point of the Christmas Market.

A range of kids’ activities are also available at the Christmas Market, much to the delight of the children.
THE ELVES’ VILLAGE. Families and children can explore Santa’s workshops, meet his reindeer, enjoy circus and puppet shows, play games and discover lots of other surprises.

MEDIEVAL ENCHANTMENT. The Middle Ages, as if you were there! Artists, storytellers and musicians. And even meat on a spit, just like in the time of the knights. All this in the magical setting of Chillon Castle. Children can make their own beeswax candles and explore a fairy-tale market.

SANTA’S GROTTO. For a whole month starting on 24 November, Santa will make an exception and open the doors to his grotto at the very top of les Rochers-de-Naye, just above Montreux at an altitude of 2,042 m above sea level. An unforgettable journey for young and old alike with a chance to meet the man himself…
