Fairmont Empress

The original stain glass dome, one of the hotel's greatest treasures, collapsed during a snowstorm on New Year's Eve 1968.  Concealed and forgotten for about 20 years, the stained glass dome in the Palm Court was uncovered during the Royal Restoration in 1988.  It was reconstructed from old photographs and an original piece of glass found in a nearby shop.

The glass dome never has the same colours; colours of the dome change dependent on the weather.

The acoustics in the Palm Court is so sensitive that if one whispers on one side of the room, the conversation can be picked up on the other side, just by whispering!

Today the Palm Court is used for Afternoon Tea in summer and as a unique wedding and reception venue.
