Ivy Facade Inspires a Ballroom - THE Social Address in Victoria

While English poet, short-story writer, and novelist Rudyard Kipling was inspired by Victoria's iconic Inner Harbour hotel, Mother Nature has inspired a new ballroom at The Fairmont Empress. The restaurant formerly known as Kipling's has been transformed into The Ivy Ballroom, and will open with a celebratory party in early May.

"We're making history as we launch The Ivy Ballroom," said Fairmont Empress General Manager Martin Leclerc. "I am very proud to present Victoria with this new ballroom that will delight guests with its combination of sophisticated décor and sought-after amenities. It is designed to exceed our guests' expectations, and make this THE place to gather on Vancouver Island."

With a capital investment of over a half a million dollars, this airy space has been transformed into a magnificent second ballroom, adding to the hotel's repertoire of beloved spaces including The Crystal Ballroom. The Ivy Ballroom will be known as THE place in Victoria for sophisticated events, elegant weddings and social gatherings with storied moments for bridal couples, special celebrations and momentous events. Natural light radiates from the adjacent Shade Garden while the expansive Edwardian architecture glows with the grace of a bygone era. The modern day refinements of crystal chandeliers, an integrated sound system, Wi-Fi and warm earth tones in this beloved historical space enchant the most discerning of guests. At just under 4,500 square feet and with a capacity for up to 280 guests, moments will be turned into treasured memories for generations to come in The Ivy Ballroom.

With hundreds of suggested name submissions from hotel colleagues and guests, the impressive ivy façade of The Fairmont Empress proved to be an inspiration. While the hotel is recognized for its unique architecture, its climbing greenery in lush Victoria lent its name to The Ivy Ballroom.

One lucky Fairmont Empress Colleague won the contest to name the ballroom. They received a one-night stay in the hotel with dinner for two in The Empress Dining Room for their award-winning name submission.
