The day I asked my future wife to marry me was January 1, 1998. I know this because we celebrate our engagement anniversary on that date every year, often at the Fairmont Hotel MacDonald.

I also know the time of our engagement. It was 12:45 pm. I know that because we were late for the movie we saw that day. It was the Titanic at the Paramount theatre in downtown Edmonton, starting at 1:00 pm. We were 10 minutes late, which was understandable. Post-engagement excitement tends to make you lose track of time. The moment we sat down, the main character was introduced. Her name was Rose Calvert. It seemed somehow fitting that we arrived at that moment, as my last name is Calvert. The biggest smile came to my new fiancées face as she said "Calvert! I'm going to be a Calvert."

We're still married, still watch the Titanic, and still celebrate life's special events at hotels. The attached photo is of the Calvert's making new memories at a family wedding held at the Fairmont Banff Springs.
