In 2007 the historic Fairmont Peace Hotel in Shanghai, which was originally built in the 1920’s, closed down for extensive renovations in order to bring this epic landmark back to its former Art Deco glory. After years of work, the hotel will reopen on July 28 2010, capturing both the charm of its roaring 20’s roots combined with the ultra-modern luxuries of today. What was once the playground for the likes of Charlie Chaplin and Bernard Shaw, is now reclaiming its position as China’s most iconic hotel. The original Jazz Bar, a favorite hang-out in the 1930’s, will reopen for business, while the new Jasmine Lounge, where afternoon tea and champagne cocktails are the name of the game, will be introduced to a new generation of guests. Nearly 300 rooms, a Willow Stream spa and six lounges and restaurants will all be ready for their unveiling this summer.
