Better known as The Egg, the National Centre for the Performing Arts is designed by renowned French architect Paul Andreu, built in 2001 and capable of accommodating over 5,000 people.

The exterior of the theater is a titanium accented glass dome that is completely surrounded by a man-made lake. It is said to look like an egg floating on water, or a water drop.

Located to the west of Tiananmen Square and the Great Hall of the People, and near the Forbidden City presented a controversy of architecture landscape of Beijing.
