A trip to Victoria, and a stay at the Fairmont Empress hotel
The travel guide said Victoria was "a little bit of Olde England". From the moment we arrived, we knew it was a perfect description. From the red double decker bus outside to the high tea in the hotel lobby, this was perfect for us. Our parents had emigrated from England and had told us many stories of what life was like "back home". Now here we were experiencing a little bit of it ourselves.
The Bengal room was charming, with the best curry I've ever tasted. The service was exceptional, the waiters discreet but attentive, and our room was a delightful mix of modern comforts and old world charm. We looked out over the waters of Victoria's Inner Harbour from our window and watched as the sun set on dozens of sailboats and quaint harbour water-taxis. The Fairmont Empress so delighted us that we decided that we must visit London next and have another taste of the Olde World.
